One day while taking a trip out to Long Island, something caught my eye out the window of the train. A beautiful Victorian Gothic building I came to learn was the abandoned St. Paul’s School for Boys. The scene before me did not look real. It was like looking into a dream. I’ve always liked to think of places like St. Paul’s as guardians of the past. I wanted to bring this idea to life with “The Silver Lining.” A little over 100 years ago, Jerome Kern and lyricist B.G. DeSylva wrote a song called “Look for the Silver Lining” for the musical, “Zip Goes A Million.” I was fortunate enough to get actor Philip Paul Kelly to appear in the film clip to sing the song acapella on the Mall in Central Park, New York. He gave a spectacular performance and was able to translate the idea of going back to bring a simple sentiment of optimism into the present.
